Description

Land degradation remains a serious challenge across Malawi. The effects are reflected in declining crop yields, food and nutrition insecurity, low household incomes, poor access to clean water, and reduced energy security among others. The project aims to support the Malawi government to address land degradation by contributing to the restoration of degraded landscapes to support sustainable livelihoods in seven selected extension planning areas in Mzimba, Kasungu, Ntchisi and Dowa districts. The sites were selected based on higher soil erosion rates compared to others. The project implements interventions on sustainable land management to address land degradation. The approach used is research and capacity building of stakeholders. The extension planning areas are Luwerezi and Khosolo in Mzimba District, Chulu in Kasungu District, Kalira and Chikwatula in Ntchisi District, and Nachisaka and Nalunga in Dowa district.
