What matter in action research to supports community-based mangrove restoration efforts in South Sumatra, Indonesia

Sungsang Mangrove Restoration and Ecotourism (SMART) project is an action research implemented by The Center for International Forest Research (CIFOR), the Sriwijaya University Center of Excellence for Peatland Conservation and Productivity Improvement (CoE Place UNSRI) and the South Sumatra Watershed Forum (FORDAS Sumsel). This project implements a four-year Participatory Action Research (PAR) to develop a locally accepted and sustainable business models, which will eventually allow communities to generate sustainable incomes from mangrove restoration and utilization in Sungsang area, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra Province. Three main interventions are to implement community-based mangrove restoration action, develop sustainable business models for local livelihood, and local policy engagement to create enabling condition for sustainable mangrove management practices.
