Description

The Sustainable Wildlife Management Program is a joint initiative of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), CIRAD, World Conservation Society (WCS), and CIFOR funded by the European Commission. The overall objective of the program is to reconcile the challenges of wildlife conservation with those of food security in a set of key socio-ecosystems (forest, wetland and savannah). The aim is to promote sustainable and legal exploitation of resilient animal populations by indigenous rural populations, while increasing and diversifying protein supply for the benefit of rural and urban populations.

CIFOR leads the work on "Consumption of wildmeat becomes sustainable" and on "Monitoring and evaluation mechanism". Additionally CIFOR is leading activities in the sites in Guyana.
